Horsham District Landcare Network is a new not-for-profit group that aims to work with Landcare groups and across the community to promote and protect our environment.

THE HDLN Story
HOW WE CAME TO BE
Horsham District Landcare Network formed in 2023 and is currently made up of Landcare members from groups across our district including Laharum Landcare, Natimuk Urban Landcare, Wonwondah Landcare, Horsham Urban Landcare and representatives from Parks Victoria, Wimmera CMA and Horsham Rural City Council.
We support Landcare and environmental groups within the Horsham Rural City Council area that also includes Horsham East Landcare and Agriculture Group, Arapiles South Agriculture Group, The Patch Community Garden, Friends of Grampians Gariwerd, Wimmera River Improvement Committee and Kanagulk Landcare.
HDLN employs a Landcare facilitator funded through DEECA’s Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program.
what we do
Our network formed out of a need for better collaboration between groups and to provide a Landcare arm in areas that groups don’t cover. We are currently working on the following key themes:
- promoting threatened species that occur within our area such as the Golden-rayed Blue Butterfly, Eltham Copper Butterfly and Growling Grass Frog
- promoting backyard Landcare through citizen science activities such as the Aussie Backyard Bird Count and Frog ID week
- providing training and resources to landholders in natural resource management including pest and weed management
- providing opportunities for community involvement in Landcare through community tree planting activities
get involved
Our group is currently made up of Landcare group members but we are expanding and would be keen to hear from anyone interested in being more involved in Landcare. While we are growing there is room within our committee for new members to take on general committee roles and be a part of our new group!
